Artist Biographies

Among Friends

Among Friends is a ladies’ choir from Park Royal United Church in Charlottetown under the direction of Valerie MacKenzie with accompanist, Sharon Cameron. This choir has been singing together for 20 years, beginning with musicals and evolving into the choir it is today. Among Friends has participated in worship services and benefit concerts at Park Royal and various other churches in P.E.I., Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

In addition to the music, building friendships is a priority and the choir enjoys lots of fun and fellowship together through pot luck suppers, family outings and fund raising projects. The group has participated in the recording of two CDs by Park Royal musicians “Park Royal Sings” and “A Gift from the Heart”.

Dino Dunsford

DinoDino Dunsford first sang in public in 1966 in a university variety show and hasn’t looked back. He has been involved in many genres of music, including: Rock N Roll, Country, Irish, and most recently Gospel. He has shared the stage with Chubby Checker and John Allan Cameron and has sung the national anthems at many functions, including the NHL Ottawa Senators AHL team home games. Dino was voted the best male vocalist for his province in 1989 and won the best Gospel CD award in 2004. During his career, Dino has released 5 CD/Albums. Dino puts a lot of energy into his shows and loves to get the audience singing and clapping along. Most people have seen him perform with his group ‘Dino and the Harmonies’. For this concert he has chosen the keyboard player, Judy Lowe, to accompany him.

Judy Lowe has been playing music for many years, getting her first gig at the Jr. Farmers Hall in North River accompanying fiddler David Thomsen. Judy has been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to accompany some great fiddlers, the likes of Cecil MacEachern, a member of the Don Messer’s Orchestra, Elliott Wight, Matthew Reid, and David Thomsen. Judy joined Dino and the Harmonies a few years ago and has enjoyed the opportunity to play gospel music with a group of very fine musicians.

Kelley Mooney

kelleyKelley had been singing at her church and weddings regularly, when in 2006, her parish priest in Iona, Father Tingley, asked her to sing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” for Easter Mass. Kelley says, “Seeing as how he’s probably got some pull with The Big Guy (and don’t we all need a little help), I said that of course I would.” Kelley re-wrote the words of Hallelujah to reflect the Easter message. She applied for the lyrical adaptation from Leonard Cohen’s publisher so she could perform and eventually record her version and was approved two years later. Her version of Hallelujah has been on YouTube since June 2010 and has gotten over 505,000 views.

Kelley love to sing and play and her husband and red-haired stepdaughter. When she’s not singing and playing, she’s watching the airplanes take off pretty much right next door to her house in East Royalty, Prince Edward Island.
