This quirky, funny new play unveils the “great women” behind the “great men” who may have inadvertently shaped a nation.
Stern faces, side-burns, trousers and top hats: this is what you see in George P. Roberts’ iconic photograph of the steps of Province House on September 11, 1864. If there was a sister photograph of women only, what would it look like? Who would be there? What would they be wearing?
A private conversation between women lets us peek into the lives of the gentler sex as they face the first challenge of the day: getting dressed! These elaborate layers of clothing and social negotiation assemble in private letting us see how some things just never change: Canadian women will speak their minds and are willing to sacrifice comfort for fashion. As entertaining as it is steeped in truth, this play will introduce you to the real-life “Mothers of the Confederation”.
