Wooden constructed cabooses were primarily used for administration purposes. They contained coal-fired stoves, kitchen facilities, and sleeping quarters. The conductor could be found working on his paperwork in this little car at the very back of the train. The caboose design was not changed from wood to iron until the late 1970's.
