SCYTHE hand cutting tool used for cutting thistles, grain, hay, etc. Even after the coming of more mechanized means of harvesting, the scythe was still used to cut the corners of grain fields where the binder could not reach. To the right is a wringer washer that was used in the 1800's for washing clothes. With these machines, washing was
a physically exhausting task.
