Before 1851, the mail was brought from Charlottetown to Kensington twice a week on horseback, usually by residents of Kensington who had traveled to the city on personal business. They would in turn deliver the mail to William Glover's home, where it would be sorted and distributed. It was in this house that the first post office was officially opened in 1851, with William Glover named postmaster. He eventually became known as the 'Father of the Postal Service' in Kensington.
