CNR safety work gloves and telegraph line insulators. Especially in the days of the steam engines, almost every part of the train was smouldering hot from the coal fires and steam pressure. These thick work gloves would ensure that no one working in close contact with the train got badly burned. Ever since the telegraph lines became obsolete, insulators like these are often seen being used as attractive doorstops and paperweights. (Railway Heritage Association, photo by Tom MacDonald)
