St. Mary's Church in Indian River was completed in 1902. As with the Anglican Church in Kensington, the new church was designed by famed architect William Harris. Today, the structure is the largest wooden church on Prince Edward Island. It was designed with a groined ceiling and nave arcades with a clerestory above them. Elements of the French Gothic style were incorporated, which were based on church designs in Quebec, Britain, and the United States. This included a unified nave and chancel, apsidal sanctuary walls, and shallow transepts. Acoustics was a top priority for designer William Harris. There are 5 organs in the church with the main organ being located in the choir loft.
