The formal dress of Major Travers of Summerside, who served with
the 'C' company of the P.E.I. Highlanders in World War I. While the
Highlanders trained in Halifax together, they were split up and placed
in different companies after arriving in England. As you might
expect, this uniform was reserved for important ceremonies or occasions.
However, when the war broke out, the Highlanders had no uniforms but
their formal dress, and so they had to depart for Halifax wearing
their kilts.
