Having no playmates until she reached school age, Maud cultivated a rich imaginary world. Like her famous character “Anne,” she found companionable characters living indoors and on bookshelves. Her friendly and outgoing character found an outlet, however, as soon as she began attending school. Maud is pictured here at age 19, when she was studying for her Second Class Teacher's Certificate at Prince of Wales College.
