There are approximately 80 lights encircling Prince Edward Island: approximately half of them are considered traditional lighthouses. Range lights make up the other type of lighting system used as a navigational tool for ships sailing along the Island coast. Many lighthouses have received much attention over the past few years and have been restored to become museums, interpretive centres and gift shops. Numerous lighthouses on the Island are now the focal point of many Sunday drives and of interest to tourists.
