Last train leaving Kensington, December 22, 1989, just as it crosses the Margate Road. Besides signifying the end of an era, the train was remarkable for another reason: it was heading out of town backwards. It had to go back to Cavendish Farms to pick up a boxcar, and simply went in reverse rather than going to the trouble of turning around. The crew on the train were: Garth Clark (conductor); Sheldon MacKinnon (engineer); Ivan Gill and Elwood Jay (trainmen). Like the railway on P.E.I. in general, this train slowly retreated from town, and soon disappeared from sight. (Railway Heritage Association, photo by Garnett Turner)
