A recruitment poster from World War II. While the Canadian response
to the call to arms was strong, enlistment began to wane as the
death tolls mounted and the number of available men shrunk. The response
from the government was an intensive program of public relations and
patriotic sentiment. Note the Union Jack flying in the background, a constant
reminder to Canadians that they were fighting for what was still their
'Mother Country.'
