Mayor Gordon Coffin and Town Councilors would like to invite everyone to the Kensington Fitplex on Saturday, April 12 from 10am to 11am for the Grand Re-Opening of the Kensington Fitplex.
The Fitplex had shut its doors the week of March 25-29 for equipment upgrades. Ten older machines were replaced with new ones from Spartan Fitness. “The old machines were used when they were installed in the Fitplex, so it was time for an update,” says Mayor Gordon Coffin. “We are really happy to present the new equipment to the community.”
The new purchase was made possible through the support of the Malpeque Bay Credit Union. Approximately 10 years ago, the Credit Union began a 50/50 draw to raise money for the Fitplex for new equipment and other capital upgrades. The funds collected over the years were able to fully cover the $30,000 cost of the new equipment.
“We have to thank the Malpeque Bay Credit Union for their incredible support,” says Community Gardens Manager, Robert Wood. “This would not have been possible without them.”
The Grand Re-Opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, healthy snacks and refreshments, and a formal thank you to the Credit Union. As a part of the Grand Re-Opening, the gym will be free to use for the week from Saturday, April 12th until Friday, April 18th to encourage new users to try it out. The Fitplex is offering a three month membership for $75 until April 30th. They are also adding extra hours to their schedule with an extra hour on Friday and opening on Sunday from 5pm to 9pm.
