Major midget hockey coming to Kensington


CHARLOTTETOWN – Hockey PEI has announced that the new entry into the New Brunswick / PEI Major Midget League will be based out of Kensington. Hockey PEI completed a bid selection process and detailed review before making its final decision. The Kensington franchise will replace the Cornwall Thunder franchise.

The new Kensington franchise that will play out of the Community Gardens and will join the Charlottetown Islanders as the second franchise in the New Brunswick / PEI Major Midget League beginning in September 2013.

“This is an exciting day, we are thrilled to have been given this opportunity. A major midget team in Kensington will be good for our community and surrounding areas and plan to involve our team into the Communities of our players. Community Gardens is a great facility and is centrally located for our players and fans. We will be ready to go for September. New look a new name and a team ready to compete,” stated Mike Gallant representing the new franchise.

Both the, yet to be named Kensington team, and the Charlottetown Islanders participate in the NB interlocking league through regular season schedule. The two Hockey PEI teams then compete annually in a provincial championship finale to determine Hockey PEI’s representative for the Regional Telus Cup Championships.
