Charlottetown visits Kensington on Saturday
KENSINGTON – There is a lot at stake as the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild prepares for a pair of exhibition games against the Charlottetown Islanders.The teams will meet at Community Gardens in Kensington on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and will renew acquaintances at MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown on Sunday at 1:40 p.m.The Wild goes into the final week of training camp with 22 skaters and three goaltenders still in camp. To illustrate the importance of these two games, the Wild will start the regular season with 18 forwards and two goaltenders.Difficult decisions “We have some difficult decisions to make after this weekend’s home-and-home series,” said Wild assistant manager Ivan Gallant. “It has been a very competitive camp, with all players showing they want to remain with the team.”All players still in camp will see action in one or both games.“I have been very impressed with what I have seen in camp, with a number of first-year players looking to crack the lineup,” added Gallant. “We encourage all fans to get out and see these young players fighting for a position on the Wild.” Home openerThe Wild will open the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League regular season at home on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Saint John Vitos visit the Gardens for a 7:30 start. It’s a big year for the Wild, who will host the Atlantic major midget hockey championship tournament in early April.
