Volunteers HeaderVolunteers HeaderIt has long been known in Canada and around the world that volunteer work and activities collectively aimed at improving our social life form the bedrock of our communities and our society in general. While the Island sandstone under our feet may be fragile, the caring in our hearts is strong; Prince Edward Island is especially privy to the rock solid benefits of volunteering. In communities across the province, Islanders contribute their care, time, and talents for the good of their neighbours both near and far. Indeed, the scope of activities covered by these groups is as vast as our soil is red!

Service
Several national and international service groups have a strong presence in Prince Edward Island. They raise funds for local charities and provide invaluable services to organizations and disadvantaged groups among the Island’s population.

Recreation
Amateur sport in Prince Edward Island is a vital part of community life. Countless local recreation committees and provincial sport associations make organized amateur sport a popular activity in our communities.

Church
Churches have long been at the centre of social life in Island communities. Organizations created around the local Church seek to foster stronger communities through family life, service to others, and worship.

Youth
In addition to some decidedly innovative home-grown youth groups, Prince Edward Island enjoys provincial branches of several national and international organizations aimed at developing personal and technical skills among youth.

Advocacy
It is well known that politics is a favourite Island hobby. In communities across the Island, concerned and motivated individuals have united their efforts to defend and promote important issues that might otherwise be overlooked.

Community School
Every winter, groups of dedicated community-minded individuals organize evening classes to provide an opportunity for their neighbours to improve upon or develop new skills and hobbies.
